  1. Hi! I am leaving this comment because I would like for you to update post with the correct link. I am going to be deleting my old site (Lorraine Reguly’s Life) and so would really appreciate it if you could update your post with a link to Wording Well. This is my new site, and because I have moved my “old” post to my “new” site, you will be left with a broken link if you don’t change it. I don’t want this to happen! Besides that it is still the same post it always was, but the domain name has changed. This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me. The internet is forever – or at least until we change things, so, please, can you change this for me? (Thanks!)

Sorry, Lorraine – My tool does not allow us to update or change links to past link parties once they’ve ended! Best of luck with your new site.

  2. I posted my link on Friday, and it showed up just fine. Now, today, I see that it has been removed. Can you please tell me if you removed it, and why? I’d like to know!

Sorry, Nicky – link party post time is for 24 hrs from 6 am Friday to 6 am Saturday. We’re on voting now! That’s why the ‘vote’ stars are showing and the ‘add your link’ bar is now gone. The link-post time ended more than 24 hrs ago.

Come back on the first Friday of October for a chance to post your link and get votes. 😉

  5. Okay, I’m lost. I successfully posted the code in my post. Now what?

You know, I’ve looked at three sites so far. I love being able to find and connect to new places, new people and new ideas… but two out of three of the sites I’ve looked at have issues that I find disturbing. One says they use images that aren’t theirs and that they got from various sites. They don’t know if the sites have the copyright and they aren’t claiming the copyright, but they want to thank the creative masters of the work. The other guy just outright uses the word “steal” when he’s talking about using work from other sites and then at the end says he ends up with original work.

Everyone looks at sites, reads books and find ideas and inspiration, but then the idea is to go out and write your own work. Just saying that you respect the creativeness of the person who designed the image or took the photo you’re using is not absolving you from the fact that it’s stealing. Lots of people have deals with companies where they can use their images with their permission, and that’s great, but if two out of three sites I’m looking at don’t have a clue that they are stealing, it’s kind of scary.

I’m putting a lot of work into the current book I’m working on. I would be slightly upset if someone got a copy, reprinted it and used it for their own means without getting permission or paying for it. I imagine other writers feel the same. So why would we think artists, photographers and other writers are any less entitled to being asked for permission or getting paid?

    • Carol Tice says:

Penny, maybe some writers are using Flickr Creative Commons or MorgueFile type stuff, where it’s OK to reproduce?

But there IS a lot of ignorance out there about the idea that if it’s on the Internet, it must be free and open for me to use…which is just not true.

I find my posts here and elsewhere get illegally reproduced on a fairly regular basis…and most often when I reach out and tell them, hey, that isn’t OK…they’re shocked. And usually more than willing to take it down, or to do Fair Use and shrink it to one paragraph with a link to the original, which is kosher.

I’d drop a note to the ones you saw, as they may need help realizing they are opening themselves up to potential lawsuits if they’re plagiarizing or using images without permission.

Nick, to be in the link party, use the link button at the bottom of the post – you’ll get more clicks that way for sure, and then people could vote for your post this weekend.

  14. Carol, my girlfriend said to me, “What are we doing tonight? I wish someone was having a party.”

I said to her, “Someone I know is and I’m going to it.”

“Am I invited?” she asked me.

I just smiled at her and said, “Yes, but it’s BYOP party.”

    She said, “What’s that?”

    “It’s a Bring-Your-Own-Post party.”

She just looked at me, smiled then said, “All you writers are weird!”

Try again — you’ll need to first paste the code in the party widget over on my sidebar somewhere on the page of your post. Then you can post your link in the party.

Best of luck! And don’t forget to tell your friends to come back on the weekend and vote for you. 😉

  18. Would also like the link party code–it’s not visible in the sidebar.

Great idea–looking forward to exploring new blogs. Thanks!
